Micro-Generation
The energy gathering devices on schemes up to 10kW typically include wind turbines, solar panels, hydro turbines and fuel cells. None of these devices generate usable power directly - they all need some form of Power Electronic Interface.
A combination of AC to DC Rectifiers, DC to DC Converters, DC to AC Inverters and Energy Storage Devices (Batteries and/or Capacitors) make up a typical power converting system for either On or Off Grid connection.
Whilst our standard products are available for integration in to Micro-generation schemes, our substantial R&D resource is also available to assist in the advancement of developing technologies.
Small-Scale Embedded Generation
Schemes typically many 100's kW up to a few MW including the fast emerging marine energy industry's wave and tidal devices utilise a multitude of different methods of harnessing the energy from the sea.
Most Marine Energy schemes use Generators that operate at variable speed and in a commercial application there are many devices operating together. A power electronic and associated control system is required to interface the array of devices to the grid.Masterpower provide complete Power & Control Solutions to Scheme Developers using industry standard Inverters, Active Regenerative Front Ends, PLC and Scada Systems utilising rugged communication networks and Secure Power Equipment.
Large-Scale Power Generation
A Large Scale Wind Farm is not unlike a power station in that it also requires some of the supporting equipment that a more conventional power station needs.
Companies like AMEC, Alfred McAlpine, Balfour Kilpatrick, Areva, VA Tech, etc… have all benefited from our vast experience in providing equipment for the Power Industry which is UVDB registered and approved by all major authorities including National Grid Transco.Consultancy & Testing
Before any device can be connected to a Power Network, extensive testing is required to ensure it meets the required Safety & Quality Standards.
Our extensive Engineering resource and Testing Facilities, which have served us well as we develop our products are available for certifying third party equipment. This includes G83/1 Grid Connection approvals. Our expertise has been built up by gaining approvals from National Grid, MoD, Network Rail to name but a few. This will be invaluable to companies taking Renewable Energy Devices and product to market.
